Doornkop Fish And Wildlife

Situated in the heart of the Komati Valley, Doornkop is malaria free and set in a private reserve of rolling hills and grassland savannahs. The Komati River and Swartwater Spruit wind their way through the reserve means fishing enthusiasts can enjoy fishing for both yellow fish and trout. Wildlife includes zebra, impala, waterbuck, giraffe and ostrich as well as 203 different bird species. Make time to visit the interesting ruins and discover the waterfalls and forests in the valley. These luxury chalets are stylishly furnished, serviced daily and have private patios with breathtaking views across the wetlands and vast open plains. Doornkop boasts 8 fly fishing trout dams, a 10km stretch of the Upper Komati River and the Swartwater Spruit, where the ever elusive yellow fish will provide hours of entertainment and the opportunity to relax in a stress free environment.

  • Fishing (Fly fishing) - Fisherman must have their own fishing permit. Permits are not
  • transferable, one permit per person is required. In this regard guests attention are drawn to the resorts Fishing Rules which state, amongst others, that only recognized fly- fishing equipment may be used for fishing and that no other fishing tackle, spinners and bait will be allowed. Furthermore, that only barbless flies may be used which are available for sale at reception. Guests will be charged a fee, per kg, for all fish kept. A complete list of the applicable rules can be obtained from reception at the resort. See Fly Fishing rules under What You Need to Know section.
